Cop nabbed in Chipata robbery

DARLINGTON MWENDABAI, Chipata
A LIVINGSTONE-BASED police inspector was allegedly involved in the fake robbery in which K126,260 was stolen at Mount Meru Service Station last week.
Police say chief inspector Felix Muntanga stage-managed the robbery with his lover Rosala Theresa Sandu whom he allegedly tied on one leg before collecting the money.
Sandu later phoned Chipata Central Police Station alleging that two men had attacked her and walked away with the money when in fact not.
She was arrested on Tuesday while the police officer and the driver were also arrested on the same day.
Police spokesperson Charity Munganga-Chanda said yesterday that the trio was slapped with a theft charge after interrogations at Chipata Central Police Station on Thursday.
“Chief inspector Felix Muntanga of Livingstone Protective Unit and Godwin Inambao, a driver from Livingstone, have been charged with theft while Mount Meru Filling station manager Rosala Theresa Sandu has been charged with theft by servant,” she said.
Mrs Munganga-Chanda said police recovered K55,000 out of K126,260.
She warned that there will be no sacred cows in the theft, stating that the police officer would be dealt with like any other suspects.
