CHRISTINE CHIHAME, Mansa
THE construction of the first ever university in Luapula Province at a US$50 million is set to start in October this year.
The Frederick Jacob Titus Chiluba University, which will be built in Mansa district, is expected to accommodate over 1,000 students in different fields of study.
Luapula Province Minister Nickson Chilangwa said in an interview recently that the project will create a lot of job opportunities for the local people at both construction and operational stage.
Mr Chilangwa said President Lungu has named the university after late second Republican President Frederick Chiluba in honour of his contribution to the nation.
“Government has set aside US$50 million for the construction of the first university in Luapula Province,” Mr Chilangwa said.
The minister said once completed, the university will benefit many people in the region as they will not have to travel long distances to access higher education.
He said the Patriotic Front (PF) government is committed to the provision of quality education at all levels.
Mr Chilangwa said Government’s decision to build a university in Luapula Province has excited the people in the region.
