Cocaine probe slows court cases

SOME court sessions at the Lusaka Magistrate’s Court were yesterday halted following the arrest of 10 officials in connection with the disappearance of 24 kilogrammes of cocaine which was part of the exhibits.
A check revealed that many courts were not sitting, with some prosecutors found loitering in the corridors.
Those talked to were concerned and urged authorities to put tight measures in securing exhibits as security at the court premises is compromised.
But the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) said it received with concern the allegations by the Judiciary and Allied Workers Union of Zambia (JAWUZ) president, Peter Mwale, that those in custody are being tortured.
