Christians divided on tithe receipts

SEVERAL Christians have expressed mixed feelings over Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA)’s pronouncement that all those wishing to get a tax refund from the tithe that they give to their churches should first ensure that they have receipts from their churches.

Under the provisions of the Income Tax Act (Section 4), a tax-payer is allowed to deduct from their income any donations that they might have made to public-benefit organisations which are approved by the minister.
But several Christians spoken to by the Sunday Mail had differing views, with some relying on the Bible for guidance while others said under the law of the land, a refund on their tithe is their entitlement.
