Chongwe edge Highridge, CHONGWE 3 HIGHRIDGE 2

CHAMPIONS Chongwe yesterday started their Copa Coca-Cola Schools National Championship campaign on a sound note when they came from behind to edge Highridge in a Group A match at Olympic Youth Development Centre in Lusaka.
Chongwe top the group while the other match in the group saw Highridge and Mungwi drawing 1-1.
Chongwe have three points, Highridge Mungwi, Chizongwe and Mitondo have a point apiece.
Allan Nyawali was the hero of the day for Chongwe netting a brace.
Highridge scored first through Erick Nkandu but their lead was curtailed a few minutes before half-time when Nyawali levelled.
The Central Province representatives again went in front through Joseph Phiri but Nyawali equalised before Isaac Phiri got the clincher in the dying minutes of the game.
Chizongwe and Mitondo battled to a goalless draw in the other Group A match.
In Group B, Samfya are top with four points.
Samfya, the Luapula Province envoys, drew 1-1 with Kaoma and overcame Linda 2-1.
The other match saw Solwezi Technical School thrash Mpika 4-1.
Mpika scored first through Chola Mumba but Solwezi restored parity through John Nyungila’s penalty.
The equaliser gave Solwezi confidence and they went on to score three goals through John Musesa, Nyungila and captain Prince Mumba.
Kaoma and Samfya battled to a one-all draw with Bizeck Banda and Carlos Kaoma scoring for either side.
Zambia Schools Sports Association president Chipangano Tembo lauded the players for their determination.
The group games continue today with Chongwe facing Mitondo while Chizongwe take on Mungwi with Highridge dating Mitondo, and the fixture between Mungwi and Chongwe will wrap up Group A.
Group B fixtures will see Kaoma take on Solwezi, Mpika face Linda, Samfya will battle it out with Solwezi while Kaoma engage Linda.
