Chipata council fires 6 over forgery

ALEX NJOVU, Chipata
CHIPATA Municipal Council has suspended six junior employees for allegedly falsifying council documents.
Council spokesperson Tawaonga Kaonga said, in an interview in Chipata on Friday, that the local authority does not condone corruption.
“We have suspended six employees for allegedly altering accounts documents. They wanted to alter some figures but they were caught before they could conclude their transactions. Falsifying of documents is a serious crime under the laws of Zambia and investigations are currently under way,” she said.
She said the council has computerised its payments system to reduce pilferage and has implemented various projects to beautify the town.
