Chawama PF rubbishes Post’s land story

TEDDY KUYELA, Lusaka
THE Patriotic Front (PF) in Lusaka’s Chawama township has denied having grabbed a piece of land which was under development by the Catholic Church in the constituency.
This follows a story in The Post newspaper quoting Father Stephen Mwape as saying that PF officials in the constituency had allegedly grabbed land which was under development by the church.
But PF constituency chairperson, Osward Bwalya, in a statement issued in Lusaka yesterday, said the land in question which is earmarked for the construction of a mini-stadium, has been a matter of contest between the Catholic Church and the community.
“Today’s (yesterday’s) headline, as usual, was a total misrepresentation of the facts on the ground. The issue at hand in Chawama constituency has nothing to do with the PF, but rather a matter between the Catholic Church and the community.
“We want to put it on record that as the PF in Chawama constituency, we enjoy a very good and cordial relationship with the Catholic Church, and Father Stephen Mwape in his capacity as the parish priest,” Mr Bwalya said.
