Charly Musonda shines in Betis debut

MIDFIELDER Charly Musonda junior on Sunday made his Real Betis debut in a 1-0 victory over struggling La Liga outfit Valencia.
Charly provided the assist for on-loan Barcelona striker Martin Montoya’s solitary goal in the 50th minute to pile pressure on Valencia coach Gary Neville.
Charly, son of former Zambia midfield maestro Charles Musonda, helped set up the goal with a deft flick in an impressive first-half performance.
Valencia ended the match with 10 men after substitute Jose Gaya was sent off for hacking Charly in the box.
The Belgian teenager joined Betis on a six-month loan from English Premier League champions Chelsea after failing to break into the Blues setup.
Betis sporting director Eduardo Macia, hailed the 19-year-old as “one of the great young talents in European football.”
“Charly (Musonda) is one of the great young talents in European football. Chelsea have big hopes in his future, and Betis wants to help him to become a great player.
He has speed, self-confidence, is eager to play and can do it in any position behind the striker,” Macia told the club website.
Charly’s style has been compared with Eden Hazard and Andres Iniesta.
Chelsea signed Charly from Anderlecht in 2012 along with his siblings Tika and Lamisha.
However, Charly’s elder brother Lamisha was released in January last year.
Real Betis and Valencia have 25 points apiece but the former have a better goal difference.
