COMPETITION and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) has warned agro-dealers who are selling expired farming inputs to unsuspecting farmers that they risk being arrested.
Eastern Province CCPC investigation officer Emmanuel Zulu said selling expired products to the public is not just an offence but also affects the crop production output.
Mr Zulu is saddened that some farmers in Chipata are being sold expired products by some agro-dealers.
“Agro-dealers are taking advantage of low educational levels of most farmers in rural areas, but this should not be allowed as no one has a right to sell expired products to the public,” he said in an interview last week.
Mr Zulu said the commission is receiving positive feedback from farmers following a recent sensitisation meeting they held recently.
He said lack of information on consumer rights has made it difficult for farmers to report cases being sold expired products by some agro-dealers.
