BoZ talks agriculture


THE Bank of Zambia (BoZ) says the level of indebtedness in the agriculture sector is making it difficult for banks to give farmers loan.
BoZ Governor Denny Kalyalya has, therefore, called on financial institutions and stakeholders in the agriculture space to urgently convene a meeting to address the various challenges that are choking growth in the sector.
Recently, the BoZ and the Zambia National Farmers’ Union (ZNFU) met to deliberate on issues surrounding finance and banking, and access to finance by the agriculture sector.
Dr Kalyalya said the sector’s contribution to the country’s gross domestic product has seriously declined due to inadequate liquidity from 16.2 percent in 2005 to 6.8 percent in 2016.
