Blades ‘cut’ Kasunga, 6 others

DIVISION One (North) Konkola Blades have released seven players including former national team midfielder Patrick Kasunga.
Others axed are goalkeeper Collins Chomba, midfielders Arnold Malisawa, Masautso Tembo, Costain Muleya and strikers Moses Phiri and Evans Bwembya.
Kasunga, who had stints with Afrisports, Nchanga Rangers and Power Dynamos, joined Blades last year while former Nkana and Mufulira Wanderers shot-stopper Chomba moved to Chililabombwe in 2012.
Club secretary Ken Chota said in an interview in Chililabombwe yesterday that the players have been offloaded due to poor performance and indiscipline.
Chota said they will not tolerate indiscipline both on and off the pitch.
“We want to have disciplined players that would be focused on the battle ahead because with the restructured Premier League, it has become more difficult to win promotion to the Super Division from the lower ranks,” he said.
Chota also said Konkola Copper Mines has assured them of continued sponsorship.
He said Blades will sign new players to bolster the squad ahead of the 2016 season.
Blades were demoted to the lower ranks at the end of the season alongside National Assembly.
