BEYONCÉ, Big Sean, Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj and Rihanna have been nominated for the Best International Act Award at next week’s MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) in KwaZulu Natal, South Africa.
MTV Base has announced that the winner, chosen by music fans voting online, will be revealed at the live awards ceremony which will be broadcast across Africa on MTV Base, MTV and BET next Saturday.
First introduced in 2010, the Best International Act Award has been previously won by the likes of Pharrell Williams and Eminem.
The Best International Act is the sole category that recognises the contribution of international artistes at the MAMA, with the remaining 17 awards categories all presented to African artistes.
MTV Base says the show will also be transmitted worldwide on partner stations and content platforms including BET International from July 18.
In addition, a special MAMA-themed edition of MTV’s acclaimed World Stage franchise will air on MTV channels around the world on August 27.
Meanwhile, 2Face (Nigeria), Aka (South Africa), Black Motion (South Africa), Wizkid (Nigeria) and Toofan (Togo) will also perform at the MAMA, which is sponsored by KwaZulu Natal in association with Absolut Vodka in partnership with The City of Durban.
MAMA award winner 2Face is this year in the running for the Evolution Award, which is created to celebrate 10 years of MTV Base’s presence on the African continent while Black Motion is nominated for Best Group with Aka and Wizkid both contending for Best Male.
Four-time nominee Toofan will be showing the moves that earned him nominations for Best Live, alongside Song of the Year, Best Collaboration and Best Francophone.
2Face, Aka, Black Motion, Wizkid and Toofan will join Bucie, Davido, Diamond Platnumz, Yemi Alade, Cassper Nyovest, NE-YO, Jhené Aiko and Young Thug on the line-up of performance.
