Attack on Dandy, crazy – musicians

KELVIN CHONGO, Lusaka
THE Zambia Association of Musicians (ZAM) has condemned United Party for National Development (UPND) cadres for allegedly attacking musician Wesley Chibambo at Natasha Nightclub in Mazabuka last weekend.
ZAM president Njoya Tembo said the attack from which Mr Chibambo, popularly known as Dandy Krazy, escaped unhurt, was uncalled for.
Mr Chibambo had to scale a wall fence to elude the knife-wielding attackers angered by the musician’s chat on social media, which they believed had some tribal undertones.
Mr Tembo said in a statement that ZAM is saddened because the incident comes barely a month after the country observed the national day of repentance, prayer and fasting on October 18.
“The day of national prayer is supposed to be yielding positive results such as tolerance, love, forgiveness and repentance,” he said.
Mr Tembo also said every person should be allowed to enjoy their freedom of movement without looking over their shoulders for possible attackers.
Mr Chibambo was reportedly attacked in full view of police in Mazabuka.
And police have instituted investigations into the incident, spokesperson Charity Munganga-Chanda has said.
She said police will inform the public on the findings of the investigations when the inquiry is completed.
“We cannot give out details on what we are doing on each step that we take,” she said.
