Army command gives Buffaloes players K100,000

THE Zambia Army command has given Green Buffaloes players and the technical bench K100,000 as a reward for winning the Barclays Cup.
Buffaloes beat Nkwazi 2-0 during last Saturday’s Barclays Cup final in Lusaka to walk away with K350,000.
Speaking during presentation of the Barclays Cup trophy at Arakan Barracks in Lusaka on Friday, Lubaya also ordered the team to defend the cup next year.
“Come 2016, we would like to have both the League Cup and the Barclays Cup brought here [Arakan Barracks]. As champions, we must defend the cup and maintain it in the barracks,” he said.
Lubaya challenged players and the technical bench to continue working hard.
“Finishing fourth on the league shows that if you are coordinated and work as a team, you can achieve more than what you have done today,” Lubaya said.
He urged sportsmen and women in uniform to maintain discipline if they are to succeed in their careers.
Buffaloes secretary Joseph Nguni said winning trophies such as the Barclays Cup motivates players.
Coach Bilton Musonda commended the army command for the support rendered to the team.
He pledged to continue working hard and bring more honours.
“We have been commanded to win the league title and also to bring back the Barclays Cup. This is a huge task but we will work hard and ensure we get good results,” he said.
Skipper Christopher Katongo said the gesture by the army commander is an honour.
“We feel encouraged. The gesture has motivated many of us [players]. We promise to work even harder come next season,” Katongo said.
Buffaloes finished fourth on the Super Division log with 51 points
