NOMSA NKANA, Lusaka
THE business community in Mporokoso has been urged to apply for concessions in the forestry sub-sector to boost timber production which has potential to support the growth of the economy.
Mporokoso member of Parliament Brian Mundubile said Northern Province has a number of forests, which the business community can exploit by engaging in timber production.
“We have a number of forests that can be of economic value once exploited. The business community is being encouraged to work with the traditional leadership and apply for concessions so that they run them,” Mr Mundubile said in an interview recently.
Commenting on President Lungu’s directive that senior civil servants should engage in agro-based activities to accelerate the green revolution, the lawmarker said the civil servants and business community need to be actively involved in activities that accelerate Zambia’s developmental agenda.
Mr Mundubile said the development of the timber industry will enable the country to boost the construction and home décor industries, thus reduce on the importation of furniture but instead export finished timber products, and broaden the country’s exports.
