ZAMBIA Daily Mail has retained its seat on the governing council of the Belt and Road News Network (BRNN), alongside leading media organisations from around the world.
As of October 2026, the BRNN had attracted 327 members from 120 countries, with 41 media organisations represented on its governing council.
The council is responsible for making key decisions on the network’s development and is chaired by China’s People’s Daily, which has a daily circulation of more than four million copies, 940 million online readers and 190 million social media followers.
Launched in 2017 following Chinese President Xi Jinping’s proposal at the first Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, BRNN provides a platform for information sharing, communication and cooperation among media organisations.
Vice-chairperson of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference Xian Hui said the network has evolved from a Chinese initiative into a global platform for media cooperation.
Ms Xian said BRNN has strengthened friendship and cooperation between China and other countries, while creating opportunities for governments to improve policy formulation through international collaboration.
She urged media organisations to remain at the forefront of reporting on emerging developments, safeguarding public opinion and promoting mutual understanding in an increasingly changing global landscape.
“Let us join hands and tell high-quality Belt and Road stories,” Ms Xian said.
Executive deputy head of the publicity department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee Hu Heping called on BRNN members to strengthen media cooperation amid growing unilateralism and protectionism.
Mr Hu urged media organisations to promote global peace, improve coordination and combat misinformation.
“Tell stories that benefit the people and give a voice to their aspirations,” he said.
Mr Hu also encouraged media organisations to embrace artificial intelligence (AI) to improve editorial efficiency and strengthen communication.
He said Chinese media organisations are ready to support training initiatives to help their international counterparts effectively use emerging technologies.
However, Mr Hu said truth and credibility should remain central to technological advancement, ensuring that innovation ultimately serves the interests of the people. https://enews.daily-mail.co.zm/welcome/home
