MAZABUKA Municipal Council has approved the allocation of 16.5 hectares of land valued at K4 million in Ngwenya to Atlas Energy Limited Zambia for the construction of a 270-megawatt thermal power plant.
Council public relations officer Ruth Nzazi said the decision was made through a council resolution, describing the project as a strategic investment that will establish one of the largest thermal power plants in the country.
“This is a direct response to the power deficit affecting households, businesses and industry in Mazabuka District.
The plant will enhance local power supply and strengthen national energy security,” Ms Nzazi said.
She noted that the project carries significant economic benefits, with the first phase expected to create more than 200 direct jobs for Mazabuka residents. Additional opportunities are anticipated in construction, supply, and service sectors.
“The development will also support industrial growth and value addition within the local economy,” she added…https://enews.daily-mail.co.zm/welcome/home
