CHILUBI Town Council has set aside K4 million to rehabilitate the main harbour on Chilubi Island, which was severely damaged by storms during last season’s heavy rains.
Council secretary Kenneth Kafumbwe confirmed that the funds, drawn from the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) disaster component, will be used once construction materials are transported to the island.
He explained that Chilubi lacks key supplies such as crushed stones, which must be imported from Samfya or Luwingu.
“Here on the island, you cannot find construction materials such as crushed stones. We either get them from Samfya or Luwingu,” Mr Kafumbwe said.
He added that rehabilitation works will begin once water levels recede, noting that infrastructure projects on the island are costly due to transport challenges.
Mr Kafumbwe said moving a backhoe tractor loader from Samfya to Chilubi cost K27,000.
“Doing infrastructure projects here is expensive because of the transport aspect,” he said………………………….https://enews.daily-mail.co.zm/welcome/home
