2026 not for games, it’s serious business, says HH

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema says the August 13 general election is not for games, and has urged the electorate to turn up in large numbers and vote to secure victory for the UPND.
“The 2026 election is not for games. It’s serious business; HH needs to win and win with a big number,” he said.
Mr Hichilema was speaking when he addressed UPND supporters who welcomed him at Mongu Airport in Western Province yesterday.
The President, who was in Mongu to meet UPND candidates at ward, council and parliamentary levels, as well as party officials, said the New Dawn administration delivers on its promises because of “the love and care we have for the people”.
“On August 13, 2026, we must all turn out to vote in big numbers so that we can keep the free education policy going.
Nobody should be allowed to come into Government again to stop this free education.
“For us to do that, we must turn up in large numbers on August 13 this year. That’s the only sure way we can keep away those people who failed to deliver free education and those who removed meal allowances from students,” the President said.
He said the UPND wants to continue on the journey of development, including provision of quality education for children.
“I have observed that one of the reasons our children are not in boarding school is because of [few] boarding schools. The next phase in our government is to build more boarding schools here,” President Hichilema said.
He added that his administration will complete Lewanika University in Mongu, whose construction has stalled since 2014.
“That is our promise to you, you will see this Lewanika University in the budget in 2027. When we promise, we deliver,” Mr Hichilema said.
The head of State said having implemented various progressive reforms in the last few years, Zambians should have no doubt that pledges his administration makes will be fulfilled.
Mr Hichilema said when UPND promises, it delivers, citing the introduction of free education and reinstatement of meal allowances for students, among others.
And the President said introduction of free education is his administration’s expression of love for Mongu residents and all Zambians.
“Because we care and love, that is why we introduced free education for all our children.
Any parent who loves his children will make sure he takes them to school,” he said….https://enews.daily-mail.co.zm/welcome/home
