GOVERNMENT has released K48 million for payment of terminal benefits to Zambia Postal Services Corporation (ZAMPOST) retirees. The disbursement of the funds is part of the third phase of the corporation’s efforts to settle outstanding retirement benefits owed to its former employees. In the first phase, Government disbursed K25 million for retirees, while an additional K30 million was paid out in June last year.

According to a statement issued by ZAMPOST public relations officer Ruth Mwanza, postmaster general Lydia Simakando said management is happy that Government has released money to pay the company’s retirees. Ms Simakando said the release of the funds is aimed at restoring dignity and hope in the former employees, who have been patiently waiting for their benefits. “The significant intervention to release K48 million for retirees demonstrates Government’s unwavering commitment to improving the welfare of Zambians,” she said.

Ms Simakando said the intervention also addresses the long-standing matters affecting retired workers and is aimed at improving the welfare of former public service employees. She said payment of the funds to retirees will be made on a f irst retired, first paid basis to ensure fairness, transparency and accountability throughout the process.

Ms Simakando said ZAMPOST remains committed to working with Government and other stakeholders to ensure smooth and transparent disbursement of funds for unpaid retirees. She said the payment is in line with President Hakainde Hichilema’s vision to strengthen governance, restore dignity in citizens and improve their livelihoods.

Ms Simakando thanked former Minister of Finance and National Planning Situmbeko Musokotwane for prioritising the disbursement of the funds for ZAMPOST retirees. She also acknowledged former Minister of Technology and Science Felix Mutati and Permanent Secretary Brilliant Habeenzu for their support in facilitating the process which led to the release of the funds. Ms Simakando recognised the retirees for their years of dedicated service to the nation and for their patience. She said ZAMPOST will continue providing updates as the payment process and whenever additional disbursements are made….https://enews.daily-mail.co.zm/welcome/home
