Chibesakunda is Stanchart board chair

STANDARD Chartered Bank has appointed Irene Lombe Chibesakunda as its new board chairperson.
She had been acting in the role following the resignation of Dolika Banda in August 2025.
With over 20 years of senior management experience across the public and private sectors, Ms Chibesakunda brings strong leadership in strategic finance and administration. She was the first Zambian to serve as chief financial officer of Standard Chartered Bank Zambia Plc.
Her previous roles include commissioner responsible for finance, human resources, and IT at the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA); deputy commissioner – direct taxes at ZRA; CFO at Copperbelt Energy Corporation Plc; and senior audit manager at KPMG in Zambia and Botswana.
She also served as deputy accountant general at the Ministry of Finance and National Planning.
In the past two years, she contributed to the USAIDfunded DAI SUNTA Project in various capacities.
Ms Chibesakunda is a fellow of the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, and has served on several boards, most recently representing ZCCMIH on the board of CNMC Luanshya Copper Mines Plc until September 2025.
