ZESCO United chief executive officer Kelvin Mutafu says the team has picked lessons from their participation in the Confederation Cup group stage.
On Sunday, winless Zesco lost 1-0 to South African side Kaizer Chiefs to end their quarter-final ambitions.
Zesco host Egyptian side Zamalek on Sunday and will wrap up with an outing to Egypt to face Al Masry.
Group D leaders Zamalek have eight points, one better than Al Masry and Chiefs.
“There are a lot of things that happen in football and I can say we will use the experience we have picked to make our team better going forward. Of course we want to finish strongly. So we will do our homework to ensure we do better in our last two games,” Mutafu said in an interview yesterday.
He said the experience they gained will make the team perform better when they compete in continental championships in future.
“It is all about learning. We have learnt from the mistakes we made in the tournament but we have also picked positive lessons. The most important thing is to learn and I believe we have learnt something,” Mutafu said.
He said they wanted to go far in Africa’s second tier.
“Our target was to go as far as we could, but you know in football anything is possible.
Like I said, we want to finish strongly and hopefully we can pick some points in the last two games,” Mutafu said.
He said the team will focus on the Super League.
“For us we have to fight hard and do better in the Super League. The technical bench and the players know how important it is and we have to die a little for our club,” Mutafu said.
Zesco, who have a game in hand, have 22 points in eighth position.
They are vying to qualify for the Absa Cup.
