FOOTBALL Association of Zambia (FAZ) president Keith Mweemba has urged the under-20 women national team not to underrate Uganda in the 2026 Poland FIFA World Cup third round.
Zambia will be in Kampala for the first leg on Sunday with the return leg in Ndola next week.
Mweemba said in an interview on Monday that coach Florence Mwila has a good team capable of qualifying for the World Cup.
He said some of the players have already played for the senior team and have experience.
“That is a good team. Most of those players, maybe about not less than six or so, are part of the senior national team, but you don’t just take things for granted. You have to prepare adequately all the time,” Mweemba said.
Margaret Gondwe and Mercy Chipasula, among others, have played for the Copper Queens.
Mweemba said the team has had good preparations.
“They have been in camp for a long time and as FAZ we have delivered on what they requested. I am very confident the under-20 will qualify. We made sure they entered camp in good time and I am sure by now they are ready,” he said.
Mweemba said the under-20 team is the future senior team, hence they always need to work hard.
He said they will always ensure all national teams are adequately prepared for various international engagements.
“That is the future of our national team. There is no substitute for adequate preparations in football.
Adequate preparations are always important,” Mweemba said.
Winners over two legs will face either Ghana or South Africa in the final round…..https://enews.daily-mail.co.zm/welcome/home
