THE European Union (EU) has announced plans to invest about US$130 million in rehabilitation of Mwinilunga–Jimbe road as part of broader efforts to advance the Lobito Corridor project.
Rehabilitation of this road is expected to play a critical role in strengthening transport infrastructure linked to the corridor, which is designed to improve regional connectivity and trade.
Head of EU Development Cooperation to Zambia Claudio Bacigalupi says the road works have been prioritised as preparations for construction of the railway line under the Lobito Corridor are being finalised.
Mr Bacigalupi was speaking when he paid a courtesy call on North-Western Province Permanent Secretary Grandson Katambi to discuss infrastructure development and progress made on the Lobito Corridor project.
He said improving the road network is a strategic step aimed at complementing the planned railway infrastructure.
Mr Bacigalupi said the upgraded road will ease movement of goods and services between Zambia and Angola, thereby enhancing cross-border trade.
He added that improved road infrastructure is essential for supporting economic activities along the Lobito Corridor.
Mr Bacigalupi said the corridor is expected to promote regional trade and deepen economic integration between Zambia and its neighbouring countries.,,,,https://enews.daily-mail.co.zm/welcome/home
