TWO security guards have been ordered to pay a K1,500 fine each or serve five months’ imprisonment, after being convicted of stealing assorted beer from Zambian Breweries.
Obert Mandevu, 35, and Mildred Nkandu, 29, pleaded guilty to stealing different beer brands, some of which the former imbibed while at the scene.
Evidence adduced in court is that on June 2, 2025, the workmates stole 13 Brutal Fruit packs, 16 Castle Lite and Flying Fish, plus five Black Label packs – all valued at K3,730.
They initially denied the theft charge before Lusaka magistrate Fine Mayambu but later changed and admitted committing the offence.
The court earlier viewed footage showing how the duo stole the beer.
“You stole the beer from Zambian Breweries?” the magistrate asked Nkandu, of Garden Township, who replied in the affirmative and told the court: “I wanted to drink.”
“Did you pay for the beer?” the magistrate asked Nkando, who said “no” as the magistrate turned to Mandevu, of Lilanda Township, who also admitted the charge.
In mitigation, the duo asked for forgiveness for their actions.
Before meting out the punishment, the prosecution informed the court that the stolen beer was recovered, except the ones drunk at the theft scene…https://enews.daily-mail.co.zm/welcome/home
