AN INFANT with a medical condition has allegedly been stolen after being transferred from Kanyama Level-One Hospital to the University Teaching Hospitals (UTH).
The baby was reported missing on December 31, 2025, but the matter was reported the following day by the little one’s father, Sirack Kangwa.
Police spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi said on December 27, 2025, around 23:00 hours, the baby’s mother, Ketai Kangwa, 37, was admitted to Kanyama Level-One Hospital, where she delivered a son.
“Due to a reported medical condition, the infant was referred to the University Teaching Hospital while the mother remained at Kanyama Level-One Hospital.”
Mr Chilabi said after her discharge on December 31, 2025, the baby’s parents went to UTH to check on their son, but medics allegedly showed them a dead child.
“…they rejected it, stating it was not their child. Mr Kangwa further alleged that their baby had been given to another person.
“Investigations are ongoing, with police and the management of the University Teaching Hospital – Women and Newborn Hospital and Kanyama Level-One Hospital working together to establish the facts,” he said.
An autopsy will be done on the infant’s body in readiness for forensic identification.
