THE Bank of Zambia (BoZ) has reminded the public that the period to exchange old banknotes for the new currency will officially close on March 31 this year.
On March 31, 2025, the central bank issued a new currency family, consisting of six banknotes and six coins, which have been circulating alongside the old currency.
BoZ assistant director for communications Besnat Mwanza said in a public notice yesterday that beyond April 1, 2026, the old banknotes will cease to be legal tender and will no longer be valid for transactions or exchange.
“The public are advised to exchange old banknotes at designated cash exchange points by March 31, 2026,” Ms Mwanza said.
“Exchanges can be made at any commercial bank or NATSAVE branch nationwide at the same value.”
