Archbishop Banda urged to use summons to clear his name

A CONSORTIUM of civil society organisations (CSOs) on governance has urged Archbishop Alick Banda to use his appearance before the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) today to clear his name as no cleric has immunity from being investigated.
DEC has summoned Archbishop Banda to assist with inquiries regarding a motor vehicle he allegedly obtained from the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA).
Members of the consortium include Zambia Civil Liberties Union (ZCLU), Governance Elections Advocacy Research Services (GEARS) Initiative Zambia, and Southern African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (SACCORD), among others.
Consortium chairperson Isaac Mwanza said Archbishop Banda should be able to respond to questions like “how did the motor vehicle transaction end up in his hands and how did ownership change between the alleged beneficiary and him?”, among other key questions….
