99% was paid back – Accountant-General

OVER K4 million earned in salaries and allowances by former and some serving ministers who remained in office after dissolution of Parliament in 2016 has been paid back to the State, Accountant-General Kennedy Musonda has confirmed.
Mr Musonda said the outstanding amount is K29,448.36, representing a recovery rate of 99.3 percent of the total debt of K4,266,664.10.
On December 7 last year, the Constitutional Court gave 63 former ministers, deputy and provincial ministers who remained in office 30 days in which to pay back the money to the State.
The amounts accumulated by the affected people were between K54,000 and K61,000.
In a statement yesterday, Mr Musonda said of the total amount repaid, K2.57 million was made through bulk deposits while the remainder was paid by individuals.
