6 SADC countries ban importation of processed meats from SA

SIX Southern African Development Community (SADC) countries have banned the importation of processed meats and dairy products from South Africa following an outbreak of listerios disease.
Recently, South Africa witnessed an outbreak of Listeriosis which is a food poisoning caused by eating foods contaminated with the Listeria monocytogenes bacterium that has claimed about 180 lives and over 900 people have officially been reportedly affected.
SADC countries that have banned the importation of processed food meats and dairy products from South Africa are Zambia, Botswana, Mozambique, Namibia, Malawi and Zimbabwe.
According to the Zambia National Farmers Union (ZNFU) brief, the Listeriosis outbreak has been traced to the enterprise foods meat processing plant in the Limpopo province, South Africa, and that government has banned the…. http://epaper.daily-mail.co.zm/
