300 leave opposition parties to join ruling party

ABOUT 300 members from the opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) and Movement for Multi-party Democracy (MMD) in Chipangali Constituency have joined the ruling Patriotic Front.
The members, who are from six wards namely Kasenga, Lukuzye, Thope, Sisinje, Chipangali and Musindila, were led by their officials and were formally welcomed by Eastern Province PF chairperson Andrew Lubusha at Kapasa Primary school.
Speaking after receiving the new members, Mr Lubusha said there is need for both old and new members to be united and work towards building and strengthening the party without side-lining anyone.
He said the PF is significantly gaining membership in Eastern Province and urged party leaders to maintain the momentum the party has gained in mobilising new members.
“Let’s work together and for clubs so that we all benefit from the development that PF is taking to all corners of the country and let’s embrace new members like any other person who joined the party a long time ago,” Mr Lubusha said.
He urged the PF members in the province to remain peaceful and united ahead of the August general elections.
Meanwhile, the provincial chairperson has said all the structures in Eastern Province are happy with President Lungu’s leadership.
Mr Lubusha appealed to PF members to continue supporting President Lungu, who is a listening leader and should be given another mandate to drive Zambia’s economy to an even better level.
And speaking on behalf of the new PF members, former UPND member Mary Kamanga said she decided to join PF because of the good leadership that President Lungu has demonstrated.
“We do not want to be part of the bitter politics, that’s why we have decided to join the progressive party [PF] which is taking development to all parts of the country,’’ she said.
