‘30 arrested during Under-20 finals’

KELVIN MBEWE, Lusaka
THE Zambia Police Service arrested 30 people for various offences during the final match between Zambia and Senegal in the just-ended Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations at National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka on Sunday.
Spokesperson Esther Katongo said in an interview yesterday 26 were trying to force themselves into the stadium while three were arrested for theft and one was found selling fake tickets.
“Generally, the event was peaceful but we had some few individuals that wanted to disturb the peace and they were arrested and charged with conduct likely to breach peace. But they were later released after paying admission of guilt fines,” Mrs Katongo said.
He said security was reinforced following the disturbance during the semi-final game between Zambia and South Africa earlier.
“We had officers from the Zambia Army and Zambia National Service to tighten security and this is what helped a lot,” she said.
