3 drivers fined for causing death

NDOLA High Court judge Mary Mulanda has imposed fines on three drivers for causing death by dangerous driving.
Mrs Justice Mulanda, who was sitting in Kitwe, fined the drivers in separate cases.
In the first case, Mrs Justice Mulanda slapped a K2,000 fine on Kamuzu Phiri, in default 30 days simple imprisonment for causing death by dangerous driving
Phiri on February 6 this year, caused the death of Priscilla Kalunga by driving a Mitsubishi Rosa on a public road in a dangerous manner.
Ms Kalunga was standing at a bus stop when she was run over by Phiri’s vehicle.
In a related case, Mrs Justice Mulanda imposed a K2, 500 fine on Elias Kalindo within 30 days or spend five weeks simple imprisonment in default.
Kalindo on September 5, last year, drove a Tata truck registration number ABH 9987 on the Kitwe -Chingola road in a manner that was dangerous to the public.
As a result, the truck collided with an oncoming Toyota Noah and Chad Mwaba, a passenger in the car died on the spot.
The postmortem indicated that Mwaba sustained serious injuries.
And Mrs Justice Mulanda ordered Henry Kapila to pay K800, in default seven days imprisonment.
On September 15 last year, Kapila who had taken some beer hit a cyclist who later died in hospital.
