A US$260 million student village, which will house student hostels, staff houses, and a shopping mall, is expected to be established by the University of Zambia (UNZA) under a public-private partnership (PPP) initiative.

A South African firm has expressed interest to partner with the institution of higher learning in the development of the project that will also include a 50 megawatts solar-powered station to provide electricity to the area while the rest will be sold to Zesco Limited.
In an interview on Tuesday, UNZA vice chancellor Luke Mumba disclosed that the project, which has been approved by the university council, will soon be submitted to the PPP Unit at State House.
