PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has used a public rally in Mandevu Constituency in Lusaka to thank Zambians for re-electing him and the United Party for National Development (UPND) on August 13.

In his first such engagement after the general election, Mr Hichilema also assured residents of Mandevu that Government will address the constituency’s challenges, particularly water supply, road infrastructure and security.

Mr Hichilema also used the meeting to introduce the new area Member of Parliament, Adrian Banda, who was declared winner after three opposition candidates pulled out of the by election, which was scheduled for November 5.

“On August 13, you elected me and the UPND. We are ready to work for you,” he said.

He said on the election day, citizens decided to give UPND majority of councillors, Members of Parliament, mayors, and re-electing him as republican President, a privilege for which he is grateful.

Mr Hichilema said post the general election, his administration’s focus is to deliver development across the country.

The President said water, roads and security are among the major concerns affecting residents and assured them that Government will work towards finding lasting solutions.

He said water is a basic necessity that requires urgent attention, while improved roads will enhance mobility and facilitate economic activities in the constituency.

Mr Hichilema also expressed concern over insecurity caused by individuals commonly referred to as junkies, directing security wings to ensure that affected young people are transformed into responsible citizens.

He said youths involved in criminal activities should be taken through skills training programmes to enable them to become productive members of society.

The President said the skills development component under the enhanced Constituency Development Fund (CDF) provides an opportunity to empower young people through vocational training.

He urged residents to abandon violence and embrace development, adding that people should be able to move freely without fear of being attacked. https://enews.daily-mail.co.zm/welcome/home
