- Minister says Grow Zambia Agenda is non-negotiable

MINISTER of Labour and Social Security Misheck Nyambose has called for a mindset shift towards a results-oriented work culture, warning that poor performance and lack of accountability will no longer be tolerated in the ministry.
Mr Nyambose said the Grow Zambia Agenda targets are non-negotiable and that labour remains a critical driver of the country’s economic transformation and development aspirations.
Speaking during a meeting with ministry staff in Lusaka yesterday, he directed management to introduce monthly performance targets and strengthen accountability among officers at headquarters and provincial offices.
He said public servants should demonstrate commitment and productivity rather than report for duty without delivering meaningful results.
“The targets of the Grow Zambia Agenda are not negotiable. Labour is a very important factor in achieving these targets. I am appealing to you to have a mindset change and ensure that we change from what we were doing before. Change now before you are changed,” Mr Nyambose said.
He said monthly performance reports will be introduced to monitor individual officers, departments and provincial offices.
Mr Nyambose directed heads of departments and provincial officials to develop clear targets and regularly account for activities undertaken to enable management to assess performance and identify areas requiring improvement.
He also announced that he will conduct unannounced visits to ministry offices and workplaces to establish whether officers are fulfilling their responsibilities.
Mr Nyambose said the visits are not intended to victimise employees but to establish whether public servants are contributing to national development or merely reporting for work and leaving at the end of the day.
He further warned officers against corruption, saying he will not tolerate the vice under his leadership.
Mr Nyambose urged employees to uphold integrity, transparency and professionalism, adding that their conduct, both within and outside the workplace, should reflect the values of public service.
“I will not condone corruption in this ministry. We must live within our means and conduct ourselves professionally, even outside the workplace,” he said. https://enews.daily-mail.co.zm/welcome/home
