UNITED Party for National Development (UPND) has dispelled claims suggesting that the party is interfering with operations of the Registrar of Societies by instructing it to meddle in the affairs of opposition political parties. UPND media director Mark Simuuwe says matters relating to the Registrar of Societies border on the law and not a political party.
Politician Saboi Imboela has accused UPND of trying to destabilise a number of political parties in the country, citing the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as one such entity.
But speaking on Radio Phoenix yesterday, Mr Simuuwe said the governing party has nothing to do with the allegation levelled against it, stating that it has its internal issues to deal with.
Mr Simuuwe further said the party will go for a convention as it is within the five-year mandate prescribed by the party constitution.
He reminded the opposition that UPND came into office with the agenda to restore the rule of law, hence it will continue to abide by that.
Mr Simuuwe said any attempt to vote out UPND will mean removing the Free Education Policy and taking back Constituency Development Fund (CDF) to K1.6 million.
“Removing UPND today, you are basically saying this Citizens Economic Empowerment Commission should be a flop. The idea of recruiting thousands of youths every year will also come to an end,” he said.
