ZSIC General Insurance has released K2.6 million as claim payment for the repair of the damaged roof at National Heroes Stadium, with Minister of Youth, Sport and Arts Elvis Nkandu describing the development as a major step towards bringing the country’s biggest sports facility back to life.
Speaking in Lusaka yesterday during the handover of the cheque, Nkandu said the payment of claim will help speed up works at the 60,000-seater facility.
He said Government attaches great importance to sports infrastructure.
Nkandu said maintaining such facilities is essential to promoting sports development and national pride.
“As Government, we attach great importance to sports infrastructure because we understand that facilities such as the National Heroes Stadium play a vital role in the development of sport in our country. This stadium is more than just a football venue. It is a national asset that brings Zambians together and provides a platform for our athletes to showcase their talent at both local and international levels,” he said.
“It is therefore Government’s responsibility to ensure that this facility is maintained, protected and kept in a condition that reflects the pride and aspirations of the people of Zambia. You may be aware that Government has already commenced a broader programme of rehabilitation works at the stadium….https://enews.daily-mail.co.zm/welcome/home
