  • President to replace Muchima, Mubanga in due course

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has relieved Minister of Health Elijah Muchima and his Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises Development counterpart Elias Mubanga of their duties.
In a statement last evening, State House chief communications specialist Clayson Hamasaka said President Hichilema’s decision, which is with immediate effect, is in accordance with Article 116 (3) (a) of the Constitution of Zambia.
“The President has conveyed his appreciation to Hon.
Muchima and Hon. Mubanga for their service to the Government of the Republic of Zambia and extends his best wishes for their future endeavours.
“He will announce their successors in due course,” Mr Hamasaka said.
Dr Muchima, who is Ikeleng’i Member of Parliament (MP), was appointed Minister of Health on July 21, 2024, after a cabinet reshuffle.
He replaced Sylvia Masebo, who was moved to the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources.
The Ikeleng’I lawmaker had earlier served as Minister of Lands and Natural Resources from September 2021 until July 21, 2024.
He has been MP for Ikeleng’i since 2006.
For Mr Mubanga, he served as Minister of Small and Medium Enterprises Development since the creation of the ministry on September 8, 2021.
The ministry was established to promote the growth of small and medium enterprises and cooperatives to create jobs and wealth.
