THE Zambia Rugby Union (ZRU) has ratified the appointment of former Zambia Rugby Referees Society (ZRRS) president Festo Njovu as one of the four honorary vice-presidents.
During the annual general meeting held in Lusaka on Saturday, ZRRS chairman Gordon Mulenga proposed that one of their own needs recognition.
Njovu joins Elliot Mhende, Judge Justin Chashi and Brigadier-General Francis Chitambo on a list of honorary vice-presidents.
Former Diggers life president Bonnie Mutale, who died last year, was the other ZRU honorary vice-president.
The proposal was seconded by two clubs and the honorary recognition was conferred on Njovu by ZRU president Chileshe Bweupe.
“We had four honorary vice-presidents. So with the passing of Bonnie Mutale, we remained with three. It is indeed an honour that the house unanimously approved to confer Mr Festo Njovu the role of honorary vice-president. Festo Njovu has been in rugby circles for many years but retired only last year from the referees’ society,” Bweupe said.
He said the union is happy to honour Njovu.
And South African-born Njovu is grateful for the gesture.
“This has come as a surprise to me because as I was doing my rugby duties those days, I did not know that people were seeing what I was doing and they can appreciate by honouring me with that position. I have been associated with Zambian rugby from 1975 up to date,” he said….https://enews.daily-mail.co.zm/welcome/home
