MINISTER of Home Affairs and Internal Security Jack Mwiimbu has challenged the Zambia Correctional Service (ZCS) to move from subsistence support to structured agribusiness management through diversified production output and improved farm mechanisation.
Mr Mwiimbu says ZCS should implement firm financial accountability in farm revenue management and expansion of agro-processing initiatives.
“During the 2024/2025 farming season, correctional farms produced over 11,000 metric tons (mt) of maize, generating revenue exceeding K20 million. This is proof that correctional facilities can be centres of productivity, skills transfer, and economic contribution,” he said yesterday when he launched the Zambia Correctional Service charter and senior officers’ conference.
Mr Mwiimbu said the charter is not a ceremonial document but a binding social contract between ZCS and citizens.
He further stated that recruitment of staff should be matched with increased professionalism and accountability.
“The Government is aware of staffing concerns, particularly as we prepare to operationalise two new correctional centres.
Serious consideration is being given to recruitment expansion, approval of the proposed organisational structure, skills upgrading, and welfare improvements,” Mr Mwiimbu said…https://enews.daily-mail.co.zm/welcome/home
