THE National Association for Smallholder Farmers (NASFA) executive director Frank Kayula has welcomed Government’s announcement that all outstanding payments to farmers who supplied maize to the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) will be cleared by January 10, 2026.
Dr Kayula urged farmers not to be discouraged by the delayed payments but to continue cultivating and growing more maize.
Finance and National Planning Minister Situmbeko Musokotwane said while Government regrets the delays, payments are being made in phases as FRA receives funds from financing institutions and proceeds from maize sales.
He assured that farmers will continue to receive their money on a rolling basis until the final settlement date.
In an interview, Dr Kayula acknowledged that although Government meant well in purchasing the maize, the payments had “over-delayed.”
“It’s very good and it’s very welcome, but the payments have over-delayed. We applaud the Government,” he said…https://enews.daily-mail.co.zm/welcome/home
