MEXICAN coach Sergio Fentanes Orozco has been appointed Chipolopolo technical analyst and advisor for the Morocco Africa Cup of Nations (AfCON).
Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) general secretary Machacha Shepande said the appointment is specific to AfCON and is aimed at providing targeted technical and analytical support to the national team’s technical bench.
Shepande said Fentanes has already joined the team and has been working with the Chipolopolo since their arrival in Casablanca last week.
“I wish to confirm that in our efforts to strengthen the Chipolopolo technical set-up at the ongoing AfCON, we have engaged Sergio Fentanes Orozco as technical analyst/ advisor for the tournament in Morocco, which runs from December 21, 2025 to January 18, 2026,” he said in a statement issued yesterday by FAZ head of media and communications Nkweto Tembwe.
Shepande clarified that the engagement does not alter FAZ’s long-standing policy of empowering local coaches but is intended to complement their work at a major tournament where detailed match analysis and opposition profiling are critical.
He said Fentanes was selected based on his previous experience with Zambian national teams, having worked with the Chipolopolo at the 2006 Egypt and 2015 Equatorial Guinea AfCON editions.
Fentanes also worked with the under-17 national team at the Under-17 AfCON in Niger.
