Mbila Bridge commissioned – A new dawn of development for Itezhi-Tezhi District

MBILA Bridge,  recently commissioned in  Itezhi-Tezhi District, comes as a life-changing infrastructure for the people of Mbila and the wider Itezhi-Tezhi District.

“During the rainy season, members of the community based upstream faced a challenge with crossing on a daily basis, as a result we had issues of children missing school, pregnant mothers struggling to reach health facilities, farmers cut off from markets, and communities isolated when the river swelled,” Twaambo Mutinta, Member of Parliament for Itezhi-tezhi said.

He said the bridge stands as a clear demonstration of what development looks like under the New Dawn Government: people-centred, inclusive, and focused on improving the quality of life for every Zambian, whether in urban or rural areas.

“I extend my sincere appreciation to Bridges to Prosperity for partnering with us. This project is a shining example of how the government, the private sector, civil society, and communities can work shoulder to shoulder to deliver tangible results. Beyond the bridge itself, our youths, men, and women gained valuable skills during construction development that builds both infrastructure and people.

As Itezhi-Tezhi continues to grow, the demand for safe crossings, schools, health posts, and roads also increases.

“CDF alone cannot meet all these needs, which is why we continue calling for more partnerships. I urge Bridges to Prosperity to continue working with us as many more dangerous crossing points still require attention,” he said.

The commissioning was attended by Bridges to Prosperity Country Director, Nachilala Nkombo, Itezhi-Tezhi Council Chairperson Oliver Sitengu, District Tobias Namatemba and Council Secretary, Benson Bweenje and the Traditional leaders as well as several members of the community.

The MP appealed for more partnerships in order to deliver development that is inclusive, sustainable and transformative.
