ZAMBIAN Breweries joined the rest of the country in marking 61 years of independence by celebrating 50 years of Mosi Premium Lager, a product named after the mighty ‘Mosi-oa-Tunya’ Falls and brewed with the same spirit of resilience and hope woven into the nation’s history.
“When Zambia took its first steps as a free and independent nation, a dream was born; a dream of unity, pride and progress. About a decade later, that same spirit found its way into a bottle,” Zambian Breweries national sales director Jaques Els said during the launch of ‘Thunder for 50’ project.
“For 50 years, Mosi has echoed the spirit of a nation that thunders as mightily as the Mosi-oa-Tunya Falls,” said Mr Els.
He said since its debut in 1975, Mosi has embodied the identity, optimism, strength and spirit of Zambia. He said it is a national emblem enjoyed by Zambians everywhere, bringing people together through music, entertainment, and shared celebrations.
To mark its golden jubilee, Zambian Breweries has launched the “Thundering Together for 50 Years” campaign, celebrating unity, culture, and progress.
“Mosi has been a premium beer that has been enjoyed by many Zambians over the years.
As we celebrate this huge milestone of 50 years, we want to give back to our consumers.
We have launched the “Thundering Together for 50 Years” campaign. Consumers will stand a chance to win their part of K500,000,” he said.
In this project, consumers can win their share of K500,000 through the ‘THUNDER FOR 50’ promotion by texting a unique 7-digit code under the crown of their Mosi to *384*50#. If they are lucky they will win a K50, which will be deposited in their mobile money account instantly. It is applicable on all networks.
Mosi, Mosi Lite and Carling Black Label brand manager Lusengu Ng’uni also announced the launch of a limited edition bottle packaging.
“Mosi’s quality has earned global recognition, with five Monde Selection Gold Quality Awards since 2017.
This achievement places Mosi among the world’s finest beers, a testament to the skill and dedication of its brewers. To celebrate its 50th anniversary, we have launched a Limited Edition pack with a Golden Jubilee-coloured message and a Gold Racetrack-adapted ribbon on the bottle,” Ms Ng’uni said.
Zambian Breweries head of marketing Susan Luneta said Mosi is not just a cultural icon, but also a vital contributor to the nation’s economy and social development.
“Zambian Breweries invests in local agriculture, sourcing cassava and sorghum from Zambian farmers, and supports initiatives like GRIT (Growing Retailers Innovatively Together) to build capacity in retailers and entrepreneurs. We will continue to do our part for the Zambian economy,” Ms Luneta said.
In five decades, Mosi has grown into a national emblem that is enjoyed by Zambians everywhere; whether at home, in a humble township bar, a five-star resort, or somewhere in the diaspora, Mosi brings people together.
Cheers to 50 years of Mosi and 61 years of Zambia!
