HH urges new envoys to prioritise investment

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema yesterday received letters of credence from eight ambassadors and one high commissioner accredited to Zambia, with the call for them to drive investment and trade opportunities that their respective countries’ investors can exploit in Zambia for can exploit in Zambia for mutual benefit.
President Hichilema said investment opportunities Zambia will present to the nine countries will be one of the high ticket areas.
Mr Hichilema said this at State House when he received letters of credence from ambassadors from Serbia, Ireland, Czech, State of Palestine, Chad, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Denmark and New Zealand.
President Hichilema said trade and investment are what should occupy the nine envoys in their day-to-day work.
He said Zambia has opportunities for investors to invest especially in the energy sector.
“We have a growing economy and thank you for your support. Most of you, as we were going through the debt-restructuring, you supported us and we appreciate that support.
Now, we are on the trajectory of growth and we want to spend more time building our relationship around that.
“Opening our countries and our markets for trade. If your business is investing in Zambia, value-add in Zambia.
We want them to have access to your markets so that really, we can have this beneficial relationship,” he said.
President Hichilema encouraged envoys from Venezuela, Chad, Nicaragua, New Zealand and Denmark to be resident in Zambia.
