Dismissed High Court Judge Muma opens defence

DISMISSED High Court Judge Wilfred Muma has opened his defence in a case he is accused of wilful failure to follow procedure involving cancellation of land title.
In the preamble of his defence, Muma told a three-member panel of adjudicators that in his over 30 years’ career in the public service, he served without blemish.
The 60-year-old former judge is accused of illegally cancelling land title for Zambia Army property in Lusaka and offering it to the former governing Patriotic Front (PF) party, at the time he worked as Commissioner of Lands.
He is charged with two counts of abuse of authority of office and wilful failure to comply with the law and applicable procedure relating allocation and disposal of public property.
The accused denied the allegations but after several witnesses testified against him, the Economic and Financial Crimes Court found him with a case to answer in February this year.
Judges Pixie Yangailo, Anne Ononuju and Ian Mabbolobbolo ruled that the prosecution had presented sufficient evidence for Muma to present his defence…https://enews.daily-mail.co.zm/welcome/home
