CONSTRUCTION of the first-ever cancer diseases hospital in the Copperbelt Province is nearing completion, with equipment starting to arrive in the country.
According to Ministry of Health principal infrastructure officer Joackim Longwe, the project has reached 75 percent completion and is expected to be finished by December 2025.
During an inspection by Copperbelt Province Minister Elisha Matambo, Mr Longwe disclosed that some equipment has already arrived and is being stored on site or at the contractor’s yard. The contract sum for the project is K305 million.
The hospital’s development plans extend to transforming it into a health hub. This includes building an isolation hospital, expanding medical wards, and constructing staff accommodation. The ministry is also considering installing a solar field for power generation and establishing a school of oncology.
Resident engineer Raymond Mupela said remaining works involve interior finishes, such as flooring, ceiling and wall decorations, as well as external works like access roads and car parks.
Mr Matambo expressed delight at the progress and urged the contractor, AVIC International, to adhere to the project schedule.
