Copper exports rise to 280,000 tonnes

ZAMBIA’S exports of refined copper in the first quarter increased to 283,500 tonnes, up from 241,100 tonnes in the same period last year, indicating a 17.6 percent rise.
During the period under review, traditional export (TE) earnings decreased by 0.8 percentage point, from K19.8 billion in March 2025, down to K19.7 billion in April.
Zambia Statistics Agency (ZamStats) acting statistician-general Sheila Mudenda said export earnings from refined copper decreased by 0.3 percentage point from K19.7 billion in March to K19.6 billion in April.
“Refined copper export volumes increased by 1.6 percent, from 71,200 tonnes in March 2025 to 72,300 tonnes in April 2025.
“Further, copper prices on the London Metal Exchange (LME) market for the corresponding months decreased by 5.5 percent, from US$9,731.1 per tonne in March 2025 to US$9,192.1 in April 2025,” Ms Mudenda said in a presentation read by the chief statistician, Chola Daka, last week.
