MINISTER of Transport and Logistics Frank Tayali has directed Ndola City Council to crack down on illegal bus stations, which have been linked to a surge in pirate taxis operating in the district.
Mr Tayali said the local authority should work with stakeholders to put in place serious measures that will help curtail illegal bus stations, resulting in pirate taxis.
Speaking during a meeting with Ndola bus drivers, the council and Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA), Mr Tayali said the office has continued receiving complaints that illegal bus stations have mushroomed in the district where taxis are operating illegally.
He said this is depriving Government of revenue and also affecting stakeholders in the buses and taxis sector.
Mr Tayali said the council should work with RTSA and the association representing buses and taxis to restore order and safety to the transportation sector, which has been plagued by illegal operators.
“Council, through you the town clerk, I’m directing you to prevent illegal bus stations, take charge as a local authority; you are losing rates, put serious measures to stop piracy and illegal bus stations.
“Black number taxis are all over, it’s now normal to see people refusing to get on buses when going long distances and preferring private vehicles pirating there at Ndeke Mini Mart,” he said…https://enews.daily-mail.co.zm/welcome/home
